GMHBA health insurance premiums to rise 3.89%

“Over the year to June 30 2006, GMHBA’s claims costs increased more slowly than the year before. Therefore as we continue to balance health care costs against the need to remain financially sound, our need to increase premiums this year is less than last year”, said Paul Whelan, GMHBA Chief Executive.

“GMHBA’s average rate increase this year is just 3.89 percent, which is less than the industry average of 4.52 percent. In fact our premiums have increased at a pace a little more than half that of the industry average over the last ten years. Therefore reflecting our not-for-profit member based fund structure, we will continue to strive towards delivering both excellent service and value for money”, said Mr Whelan.

“We have worked hard to increase membership numbers. We recently achieved our 30 June membership budget almost five months ahead of schedule. This growth is the result of providing value to members wherever they may be across Australia. Should any GMHBA members have questions, they will be sent a letter confirming their new rates next month. They can also call our Customer Service Centre on 1300 4 GMHBA (46422) with any questions,” said Mr Whelan.
